The Agriates desert is the only desert in Europe. It’s the largest natural site on the Mediterranean coast. Classified as a protected site, it is very appreciated by nature lovers and sports enthusiasts (hiking, mountain biking,…) for its untouched natural beauty. It also shelters Corsica’s most beautiful beaches and also the least civilized ones because of their difficult access.
SALECCIA BEACH
This 1-kilometer long beach looks like a tropical lagoon. It’s bordered by dunes and a forest of Alet pine trees that is unique in Corsica. The movie “The Longest Day” was filmed on this beach.
LOTO BEACH
Located 3 kilometers from Saleccia, this beach is smaller but just as beautiful. A shuttle boat runs between it and Saint Florent which makes it a popular destination.
GHIGNU BEACH
10 km from the Relais de Saleccia you will come across the trail leading to this beach. Then it’s another 13 km on a bumpy, rugged trail only accessible to 4-wheel drive vehicles. Due to its difficult access, it is uncrowded and not as well-known as the other beaches. It is definitely the most uncivilized of all the beaches in the Agriates. You can find old sheep sheds made of stone that have been converted into shelters used by hikers.
OSTRICONI BEACH
This beach, only a 20-minute drive from the Relais de Saleccia, is the easiest one to access.
